A Wide Smile and Proud Heart

On Monday, August 1, 2011 I had the opportunity to witness my USAF son obtain his latest promotion. He received his stripe for this promotion in Valdosta at the Recruiting Center Building. It was the first time in his career that I was able to attend this event. He has always been stationed too far away for us to go or it was inconvenient timing for us to travel so we could attend.

On Monday morning, my mom (his maternal grandmother) and I along with his wife and children all attended this ceremony. This is called "tacking on a stripe". It is an Air Force tradition for the person receiving the promotion, to choose who will participate in this part of the ceremony. He chose his wife, children, and immediate supervisor to do this. I have to tell you all it was an extremely proud moment for me to be there. I was very honored to get to witness this ceremony. I smiled and shed a few tears to see my son obtain his promotion. He made a speech at the end and told everyone how much his grandpa's had influenced his decision to go into the military since they had both served in the military. One during the Korean conflict and another in World War II. He thanked all of us for attending. He did not have a speech prepared but he did wonderful to have to speak "off the cuff".

I would like to share this proud moment with you through the pictures below. Of course these are all posed pictures as I did not know the protocol for taking pictures during the ceremony. We salute you Master Sgt Majors.
"They took the blue from the sky and pretty girls eyes and a touch of ole glory too and gave it to the men who proudly wear the USAF blues!!! Off we go into the Wild Blue Yonder, soaring high......" congratulations Jarrod Lee Majors on your promotion!

I Got the Summertime Blues...or is that Hot Pink?

A few weeks ago, the Cairo Grandsons spent the night with us while their Dad and Mom attended Derrick's 20th class reunion. We ordered pizza and cinnamon sticks. A staple dinner when you spend a weekend night with Nanny. We ate, played, watched some tv, and tried to settle down. Each time they stay, they announce they are staying up all night. Alden usually last till about 10 or so (sometimes later if he has had a good nap) Noah stays up later but only because he is all into the  computer and playing games. They finally fell asleep and Nanny settled down into the couch to rest and watch a little tv, but then I thought...with a sly smile and a thoughtful hmmmmm I am going to play the same trick on them, that they played on Poppa a couple of  weeks before.  (Ok so it was a WE idea, not necessarily a "they" idea  * smiles*)He had fell asleep in his recliner and we did the old paint the toe with bright nail polish while he was snoozing. We also tried the shaving foam in the hand while tickling his nose. We wanted  to see if he would slap himself in the face with the shaving cream. Alden was giggling so hard he awakened Poppa, but they sure had tons of fun trying.

Anyhooooo back to the original story; when the boys  were fast asleep, out creeps that HOT PINK toe painting fairy and gives both those sleeping boys big toes a splash of that vibrant color. The next morning I was awakened by Alden saying "Get it off, Get it OFF!!!" I was going to have all 3 guys put their toes out side by side (yep Poppa still had his polish on!) and take a picture...they were not having any of that, but you can see the sneaky work that toe painting fairy did in the pictures below....like I have said..it may be the summertime blues, but HOT PINK was the we colored it! :-)

I have a Great Idea

I need to post a picture of him once he says " Hey Nanny!, I have a great idea!" His face takes on certain characteristics, raised eyebrows, slight smile, and the hand gesture that lets you know he is making a point! He came up with a good one this morning and we had to laugh while looking astonished at each other. He had asked me to play a game with him and I told him to ask his Poppa because I was tired of playing. I played all during the week with them and I didn't want to play right now ( I know one day I will wish I had not said that!) Anyway he comes over to the couch where I was sitting and says.." Hey Nanny, I have a great idea!" I say, "Really, what kind of idea do you have?" He stretches out that little hand and with every word he says, it reinforces the idea is a good one. He says; " Why don't you go to work for Poppa one day and let Poppa stay here and play with us; then nedder of you will get tired." Hmmmmm Sounds interesting I told him. But then...I asked: " Well what does Poppa do at work, I may not can do it?' He looks at me and tells me...all Poppa does is ride people in his truck, put papers on tree limbs and measures. He told me I could do that. Then he went to Poppa with his idea (of course I encouraged him to go tell him his great idea, Poppa should be in on these things ya know?) He repeated to Poppa what he told me, then Poppa asked.."Well, what does Nanny do, what type job does she have?" Alden without faltering or missing a step says ; "EASY PEEZY, you just sit and play on the computer all day!"
Well..................I am so glad my day is so easy peezy! I wonder who does that laundry, cooks lunch, fold clothing, irons, cooks dinner, swims with the boys, plays checkers, WII, plays games, gets snacks, referees fights, reads, watches tons of cartoons, will that person please stand up, cuz I have the EASY PEEZY JOB OF SITTING AND PLAYING ON THE COMPUTER ALL DAY! hAHAHAH, Out of the mouth of babes!

Ho Hum mmmmmmmm

Today was kinda of a "ho-hum" day. Very relaxing and very laid back. Hubs played golf. I slept late, went to WalMart, and just looked at the pool. P's "honey-d0" was to vacum it and have it ready for the Cairo Grands to swim in tomorrow. They will come stay with Nanny till Daddy gets off tomorrow. I  have a trip to the library planned (they have to carry back their summer reading books and check out more) Hopefully about midmorning we can accomplish that and get back to the house and spend the afternoon in the pool! Only way to survive the hot hot hot days we are having here in SW GA....Here's to a great week for all of you!

Summer Sizzles

Well Folks, Looks like I have failed at this blogging yet again! I want to be good at it and keep it up. There are days I think I can take time to do it and then there are days, it just doesn't appeal to me. But once again, I want to try to do some writing and journaling. What better place than at Majors Melodies!

It's been a hot sizzling  summer but a laid back one as well. My North Dakota Grandkids are here in GA with their Dad and we've been over to Waycross a couple of times visiting. They have only been to Nana and Poptarts once since arriving, but understandably so. They need time with their Dad, Laura,  and brothers. We did spend a day there for Kyra's big 8th birthday party (I'll post some pix!) Then back again another weekend to spend a relaxing time with all the kids (big and not quiet so big)! It was an amazing birthday party with lots of family, food, and swimming! Also the weekend get-away was good too. Very relaxing and spent loving on the kiddos, eating some wickedly good wings and extremely delish lemon cupcakes!  I love my family so much! My sons are awesome; good workers, good fathers, with ahhhhhmazing wives. They  gave me my heart-throbs in Corben, (14) Noah (8), Kyra (8), Alden (5), Landyn (4), and Jarrod Lee, Jr. (2) My life is sooo very blessed.

Haven't been anywhere this summer yet. Did go to the beach with my girlfriends for a weekend and rode to Carrabelle Florida with hubs over the 4th (work related, drove down and back in the same day!) Just been swimming a lot with the Cairo grands, eating some MacDonalds, and spending time resting and relaxing for the most part. Kinda boring for many but suites me to a "T"~

Hoping your summer is sizzling and just as you want it to be too! Maybe just maybe I can keep up the blogging!

As promised, pictures from Kyra's bd party at son Jarrod's home in Waycross, GA.
Landyn's turn getting thrown into the pool!
Uncle Jarrod and Anna Rae cheezing for the camera.
Lifeguards on Duty!
Jarrod Lee squinting into the sunshine
The line for getting "thrown into the pool!"

There goes Noah!

And into the water goes Alden
